Only you can prevent forest fires. First appearing in 1944, Smokey Bear is the beloved icon of the longest-running public service campaign in US history. The inspiration for Smokey came from a black bear cub who was rescued in 1950 after a fire in the Capitan Mounts in New Mexico (this stamp was issued in Capitan, NM, where the real Smokey is buried). Smokey’s message takes on renewed importance even today, and your friends and family will immediately recognize him when you post your letters with this stamp.

Interested in more nature or conservation stamps to pair with these for postage? Check out our other vintage stamp listings, all of which can still be used to pay postage on current mail (using additional postage as needed to make up the current first-class rate). All are mint with full gum on reverse; however, due to the age of the stamps, we recommend use of a damp sponge instead of licking the back, or we might recommend using a dab of a permanent glue stick before mailing.

Shipping Info: We ship our stamps, stickers, and other flat items in a sturdy, flat mailer with tracking for the best protection. Because the post office considers this a “package” and not a flexible envelope, the cost of shipping is subject to package prices. This is the best way to protect your purchase.

T-shirts are shipped in poly mailers.
