Face Value 10 Cents | 1969 | Scott C76

Space. The final frontier. History was made on July 20, 1969, when Apollo 11 landed on the surface of the moon, and then on July 21, Neil Armstrong became the first human to step foot on its surface. Apollo 11 launched July 16, 1965, and the astronauts splashed back down to Earth on July 24, effectively ending the “race” to the moon, which the Americans won. This stamp was put into production and issued on September 9, 1969, featuring a scene of an astronaut stepping foot on the surface of the moon. Paying the then-airmail rate of 10-cents, this oversize stamp made a dramatic addition to an envelope then, as it will today. Interested in space stamps? Check out our other vintage space stamp listings. A number of stamps were issued by the US Postal Service in the 1960s-70s to commemorate space-related events. With these stamps, your letters will be out of this world! You will receive a block of 16-32 of these vintage 10-cent stamps, all of which can still be used to pay postage on current mail (using additional postage as needed to make up the current first-class rate). All are mint with full gum on reverse; however, due to the age of the stamps, we recommend use of a damp sponge instead of licking the back, or we might recommend using a dab of a permanent glue stick before mailing.

Shipping Info: We ship our stamps, stickers, and other flat items in a sturdy, flat mailer with tracking for the best protection. Because the post office considers this a “package” and not a flexible envelope, the cost of shipping is subject to package prices. This is the best way to protect your purchase.

T-shirts are shipped in poly mailers.
