Face Value 20 Cents | 1982 | Scott 2006-2009
Held in 1982, the Knoxville (Tennessee) International Energy Exposition (popularly known as the “World’s Fair”) was a celebration of technology and innovation. Opened by President Ronald Reagan, concepts as varied as touch screens and Cherry Coke made their debut at the fair. These four stamp designs honoring the expo depict themes of solar energy, synthetic fuels, breeder reactors, and fossil fuels that were showcased at the fair. The event drew over 11-million visitors, and the Sunsphere constructed on the grounds still remains today as a symbol of the city. These stamps are a perfect addition to your science and environment-themed correspondence! Interested in more science/environment stamps to pair with these for postage? Check out our other vintage stamp listings.
These vintage stamps can still be used to pay postage on current mail (using additional postage as needed to make up the current first-class rate). All are mint with full gum on reverse; however, due to the age of the stamps, we recommend use of a damp sponge instead of licking the back, or we might recommend using a dab of a permanent glue stick before mailing.
