The Roanoake Colony was the attempt to establish the first permanent English settlement in North America. Organized by Sir Walter Raleigh, the first of the voyages landed in present-day Outer Banks in North Carolina in 1584. Though many of the first settlements failed due to lack of supplies and hostile relationships with the Native Americans, a series of voyages continued to be made over the subsequent years. Ultimately the first permanent settlement was founded at Jamestown, Virginia, in 1607.

Interested in more history or East Coast geography stamps to pair with these for postage? Check out our other vintage stamp listings, all of which can still be used to pay postage on current mail (using additional postage as needed to make up the current first-class rate). All are mint with full gum on reverse; however, due to the age of the stamps, we recommend use of a damp sponge instead of licking the back, or we might recommend using a dab of a permanent glue stick before mailing.

Shipping Info: We ship our stamps, stickers, and other flat items in a sturdy, flat mailer with tracking for the best protection. Because the post office considers this a “package” and not a flexible envelope, the cost of shipping is subject to package prices. This is the best way to protect your purchase.

T-shirts are shipped in poly mailers.
